In the latest vaccination update from The Daily Yonder, the rural vaccination rate has increased by one-third of a percentage, with 172,000 new COVID-19 vaccinations completed.
As of Dec. 16, 46.8% of rural America is fully vaccinated against COVID. To compare, the metropolitan vaccination rate is 27% higher at 59.5%.
From the update: “Deep South states figure prominently for having the lowest rates of rural vaccination. Georgia has less than a quarter of its rural residents vaccinated, although a large number of vaccinations without geographic information could be part of the reason. Missouri, Alabama, and Louisiana all have rural vaccination rates under 40% of total population.”
While there are rural counties with higher vaccination rates, across the board rural America is struggling to get everyone vaccinated.
