According to a new dataset from The Daily Yonder, rural unemployment level dipped 10% between July 2019 and July 2020. 18.5% of rural counties have fewer employment opportunities, in contrast to 28.1% in 2019.

However, the current pandemic has all but eliminated jobs for rural women in the workforce, with child-care employment nonexistent and federal unemployment benefits curtailed.
