In a September 2021 report for the Department of Agriculture’s Economic Research Service, researchers have found that hunger across the country has decreased from 2019.

In rural areas, households with income below the poverty line were 69.4% food secure in 2020, an almost five percent increase from 64.8% in 2019. Rural households with very low food insecurity decreased as well, to 12.9% in 2020 from 2019’s 14.7%.
