As Hurricane Ida slammed the Gulf Coast this past weekend, rural hospitals across Louisiana made the decision to evacuate patients, as the heavy wind and water damage threatens power supplies for ventilators.

Patients in smaller, rural hospitals are being evacuated to larger facilities in the hospital system as soon as possible. Health care administrators voiced concerns regarding the current surge of COVID-19 cases in the state on top of storm power outages, with worries of higher infection rates as people travel out of the hurricane’s path.
