In their newest Trust in News report, the Reuters Institute reports that rural residents in multiple countries across the globe are hesitant in trusting news media, with 40% of rural residents in the United States saying they are “generally untrusting” of the news, compared to 16% of metro residents.

According to the report, many rural residents do trust some news media sources more than others, such as news on TV rather than print.
