Lost Rivers Medical Center in Arco, Idaho is the “Tiny Hospital That Could.”

The little brick hospital tucked away in the mountains was in danger of closing its doors in 2013, but now it is setting the example for other rural hospitals across the county. LMRC recently secured financing to help pay for advanced technology, upgraded facilities and expanded services.

“Lost Rivers Medical Center was the poster child for everything that was wrong with rural health care and everything that was wrong with rural hospitals,” says Brad Huerta, Lost Rivers Medical Center CEO.

While LRMC continues to grow, 78 rural hospitals have closed across the country since 2010.
